Graffiti Archeology in NYC

Check out these articles from the New York Times and Newsday about a developer who discovered a treasure trove of graffiti at 151 Wooster in Manhattan when he started demolishing his property for luxury condos. The developers are very excited about their find. They had the Guggenheim Museum out for a public talk. Artists on the wall supposedly include Fab 5 Freddy, Futura and Jean Michel Basquiat. The developers are trying to recreate that feel of the 70/80s NY Loft and they feel that the graffiti validates their mission – unfortunately the lofts they are building will be sold in the $3.5 – 9.75 million. It remains to be seen if any of the new residents will be inviting graffiti writers to come in and paint their new digs. Thanks to Harrison Bohrman for the tip off!
