“DVD Verdict” Bomb It DVD Review

And the verdict is in…

Docurama’s DVD of Bomb It is as strong as the film. Though the film uses variable video and film stock with a number of animated sequences and archival footage, the image is very good. The new footage is perfectly rendered and the old looks fairly good. The transfer is clean all the way through. So, too, with the 5.1 surround mix. The dialogue is clear in the center channel with the remaining speakers used for the solid fun, hip-hop, and punk soundtrack. The extras include an engaging commentary with Reiss and cinematographer/producer Tracy Wares, some extended time-lapse sequences of the creation of some of the art, extended scenes, and outtakes… As such, Bomb It is a very effective look at the history of street art in many of its forms.

Bomb It Review in Afrikaans – Die Burger South Africa

DIE jaarlikse dokumentêre rolprentfees Encounters begin Donderdag in die Nu Metro-teaters in die V&A Waterfront in Kaapstad. Resensies van van die prente verskyn gereeld. Bomb It! , VSA, 93 minute. Regisseur: Ron Reiss. Laetitia Pople.

Bomb It Press from South Africa Mail&Guardian

Bomb It Directed by John Reiss (US, 2007) Bomb It is a frenetically edited feature-length whiz through the global graffiti scenes, starting in Philadelphia, the apparent birthplace of the art form. In this film, which boldly tries to encapsulate the history of graffiti and make a political case for it, the myth of spray-can art’s New York origins are immediately shattered by the introduction of Cornbread, a little-known progenitor of the form who even did time for painting on an elephant in a Philadelphia zoo. Produced and directed by John Reiss (who has also made a film on rave culture), Bomb It is extensive in its sweep, briskly covering various styles (such as freestyle graffiti), even featuring interviews with Cape Town veterans like Falco and Faith 47 who shed light on the dynamics of pursuing the form in the developing world.
