Graffiti artists, building owners work together in Toronto

CapJack:

This piece was in part of an alley in Toronto where there is an annual event called “Style in Progress.” Building owners and graffiti writers work together and there is a day of incredible artwork. It’s an amazing celebration of graffiti as art, with a ton of fantastic talent, and the people we met were totally excited about it.

This piece really jumped out at me because of the coloring. It takes a minute to absorb everything that’s happening in this piece, but if you spend a couple of good solid minutes looking at it, you’ll see small nuances of the colors.

One of the reasons I liked this piece so much was because of the unspecific light and dark patches of the fill. The lights and darks aren’t tethered to a specific pattern. Look at how the beige, pinks and white transition and interact.

If you take a close look, the depth of this piece is defined by the gradient 3-D blues and browns.

Graffiti War Erupts Over Israel’s Road Signs

‘It’s a Public Service,’ Says an Activist With Arabic Stickers.

JERUSALEM — On a recent night in this ethnically divided city, an Israeli and two American Jews patrolled the streets, armed with a ladder, adhesive spray and a pile of handwritten placards. Every few minutes, they hopped out of the car, slapped a sticker onto a road sign and snapped a picture.

Their operation, which has taken place four times since May, is aimed at countering ultra-nationalist vandals who had defaced the Arabic lettering on Jerusalem’s street signs. Over that vandalism, the new vigilantes, with a more pluralist vision of Israel, have put up stickers with large, flowing Arabic calligraphy spelling out the street’s name.

“It’s a public service,” said Romy Achituv, the Israeli behind the wheel, before speeding off to the next sign on the checklist.

New website tackles graffiti

Hampshire residents are being urged to identify graffiti vandals with the launch of a new online gallery.

Police and charity Crimestoppers have set up the website where people can post photos of graffiti so distinctive “tags” can be identified.

Residents are also being asked to look at the images to see if they know who is responsible for the graffiti.
