Financial Tip for Goldman Sachs: Invest in a Sense of Humour.

Goldman Sachs most certainly have their knickers in a twist in response to these stickers that have “paradied the bank’s logo – replacing it with “Gold in Sacks”. The bank, having gone through a bit of a rough patch, is under scrutiny by many and doesn’t like that extra “bad press” is making its way across New York and even Chicago. ” Unable to find the person behind the stickering campaign, Daily Intel reached out to Goldman Sachs, assuming that with their vast resources, government connections, and notorious penchant for exploiting every opportunity to make a buck, the bank would already have their squid tentacles wrapped around the perpetrator, or at least and have fired off a cease-and-desist letter, like they did last year to the founder of the website GoldmanSachs666.com. Goldman spokesman Lucas van Praag told Daily Intel. “[…] I think whoever is producing it gets a failing grade for originality.” [nymag.com]  I feel that although its not the most creative tag-line it certainly makes one chuckle (which Goldman Saachs should appreciate as I feel frowning is the usual response when people refer to their name.) The culprit (or culprits) are probably some ex-GS investors who, now that they aren’t channeling Gordon Gecko, have taken to the streets to do some real work. Keep up the work boys!

Attention Bombers in Mumbai: Want to Get Your Art Work On a Gallery Wall?

The Guild, Colaba has initiated a novel venture for art lovers. Starting August 4, you can pick up a spray can — the gallery provides one — and draw graffiti on a wall inside the gallery reserved especially for this purpose. Titled “I Think Therefore Graffiti”, the exhibition will showcase graffiti made by 20 famous contemporary artists including Gigi Scaria, Apnavi Thacker, Atul Dodiya, and Baiju Parthan. “The artists came to the gallery, mostly at nights, to make these graffiti works,” said gallerist Shalini Sawhney, who conceptualised the exhibition two months ago.

We hope to create a public intervention in the otherwise private space of an art gallery,” said Sawhney. The wall will be wiped clean every few days, but before that snapshots of the graffiti drawn by the viewers will be uploaded on the gallery’s website. “Graffiti emerged as an act of rebellion against barriers,” said artist Gigi Scaria. “But the irony is that you need a wall, a barrier of sorts, to draw it. My graffiti on canvas is also a comment on how an act of rebellion merges into the mainstream,” he said. [Hindutimes.com]

The exhibition opens August 4, 7.30 pm until September 8 at The Guilt, Colaba (22820093). It will be open from 11 am to 6.30 pm on all days except Sundays.

British Graff Artists Presented As Gift from Prime Minister to President

British Prime Minister David Cameron during his first visit to the White House presented U.S. President Barack Obama with a piece of work by British graffiti artist, known as “Brighton’s answer to Banksy“, Ben “Eine” Flynn.[1]

“Flynn, who works under the pseudonym Ben Eine, has not enjoyed so much as a minor retrospective anywhere. Until now he was not even among the four bestselling artists from Sussex at the Brighton gallery that represents him. Last night Flynn, 39, told The Times that his “pretty mad” walk-on part in the special relationship began when the phone rang a week ago. “I got a phone call from No 10 saying David Cameron is a fan of my work,” he said. It was news to him. These days he operates within the law, amid the burgeoning street art scene that has made Banksy one of today’s most famous contemporary artists.” [2]

Eine last came to the media’s attention when he persuaded the shopkeepers of Middlesex Street in Spitalfields to allow him to paint the entire alphabet, in his trademark vibrant, cheerful colours, on their closed security shutters. Elsewhere in London, his letters spell out whole words – “Exciting” or “Scary” or “Vandalism” – on walls and buildings, or just stand on their own: a solitary “e” or “a” adorning a shopfront or telecomm box. There’s a Googlemap of his London work, but similar typographical totems can also be seen in Tokyo, New York, Los Angeles and Paris, as well as Newcastle and Hastings, where he now lives.” [The Guardian]
